WOMEN’S WORLD

(By “Nanette.”)

Miss M. Coulter has been appointed assistant mistress at Parewanui School and Miss M. M. Caird sole teacher at Gyneath. Miss E. Skinner, of Lyndhurst Street, who has been staying with Mrs W. P. Wellington, of Dunedin, will return to lier home to-morrow.

Tile death has occurred at the age of 86 years of Mrs Sarah Nisbet, widow of Dr. Thomas Nisbet, D.D., a former minister of First Church, Dunedin. Mrs Nisbet founded Archerfield girls’ boarding school in Dunedin. She was one of the first advocates of open-air school-rooms and sleeping balconies and with the help of the late Sir Truby King these were installed at the school. Miss F. Fleming, of Palmerston North, has been advised that she has been accepted for service with the W.R.N.S. and leaves shortly to undergo a special course of training. Miss Fleming, who has been a valued member of the staff of Messrs Jacobs and Grant for the past five years, was entertained by her fellow members recently, when she was the recipient of a token of esteem. Miss Fleming is also a member of the Manawatu Golf Club.

A pleasing number of members attended the first meeting of the new year of the St. Peter’s Mothers Union, Terrace End, yesterday. Prior to the meeting a service was conducted by the vicar (Rev. F. S. Ramson), who later presided and gave an interesting address on “The Mothers’ Union Prayer’’. Mrs D. McPherson entertained with pianoforte and vocal solos, selfaccompanied, and the hostesses were Mesdames D. F. Christie and Smith. Sympathy with Mrs J. S. Hornblow in her continued indisposition was expressed by members.
