LEFT IN TRAMS
WELLINGTON, Dec. 29. Fifty articles were left, due to, lapses of memory on the part of the owners, in Wellington trams during the Christmas period. This was not the worst record which has been established in that respect, and not a * single Christmas cake was left behind to be mourned as lost forever. It is true that both beer and lamb were left by different passengers on one tramcar, but they discovered their loss in time to have their Christmas cheer restored to them before it was too late. Three umbrellas, numbers of gloves, and hats, coats, scarves, and belts await claimants, also a number of cases—all empty. They were left behind in the Christmas rush. During the past year 6649 articles mislaid by their owners while on tram journeys found their way into the lost property office and on 1169 occasions money or valuables were handed in to await the claim of an owner. One wet weekend 27 umbrellas were collected. Loft in city trams during the year have been quite a number of fur stoics, many brooches, handbags, purses, watches and gloves, and thousands of keys.
