BOYS' CRICKET

WELLINGTON, Dec. 29. The cricket match between boys' teams under 18 years of age representing Manawatu and Wellington, which was started on Boxing Day at the Basin Reserve, was concluded in ideal weather yesterday, resulting in a draw in favour of Wellington. On the opening day Manawatu totalled 218, and Wellington had 43 runs on for the loss of two wickets. Continuing their innings yesterday, bright batting by C. Jones and O'Brien enabled Wellington to total 234. Cameron bowled well for Manawatu in taking five wickets for 71. Effective right-hand fast-medium bowling by S. Head, a 16-year-old Niue Islander, a pupil at Wellington Technical College, who took eight wickets for 47 runs, saw Manawatu in their second innings for 108, of which Harkncss claimed 39. Left with 93 to get to win in an hour, Lahood and pornish had 62 runs on for the loss of no wickets when stumps were drawn at 5 o'clock, an interesting game resulting in a draw.
