AMERICAN FOOD RATIONING
(Itcc. 9.5 a.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 27. The Government has disclosed an unusually important announcement it is making to-morrow on the food situation. It directly affects every family in America.
The New York Times understands that the rationing of all canned goods throughout America will be announced.
New York citizens are coming to grips with more shortages, particularly butter, fuel, and oil. Most shops are entirely without butter and many big hotels and apartment houses are uimble to furnish heat because of a lack of fuel.
A governmental review of food shipments in 1942 tells housewives why they are confronted with many shortages. It explains that shipments for the troops under Lease-or-Lend included 8,440,0001 bof butter, 107.000,0001 b of dried eggs, 408,000,0001 b of evaporated and condensed milk, and 2,560,0001 b of meat. Furtliornioffi, the soldier eats 51b of food daily compared with the average civilian 41b. The Food Administrator disclosed that American food production in 1942 is breaking all records and will exceed that of 1941 by 14 per cent. He added that reserve supplies will provide food for at least 18 months.
