RUSSIAN THREAT GREATER
GERMAN ARMIES IN SOUTH . LONDON, Dec, 27. i* The Russians are more than ever threatening the German armies in South Russia. The situation in the Millerovo area is that the Russians are moving nearer to-Kamensk on the railway south of Millerovo. One force is said to be within 35 miles and another within 50 miles of Kamensk, an important toAvn.
The importance of Ivamcnsk lies in its strategic position, commanding botli tho railway from Rostov to Voronezh and that to Stalingrad. ' Further enemy attempts southwest of Stalingrad have failed to bring any rclef to the entrapped German army, and the Russians have now driven the Germans back about 30 miles.
In the Caucasus the enemy is being forced back in the direction of Nalchik. Berlin says that the withdrawal is “according to plan”. In the central sector tho fighting has livened up, and the Red Army has captured several more places in the Veliki Luki area.
