PEDESTRIAN KILLED
(Press Assn.) WHANGAREI, Dec. 26. Exactly a week after a similar fatality on the same stretch of road, an accident accompanied by loss of life occurred on the Kaitaia-Awanui road on Christmas Eve. The victim was Wireless-Operator Keith Israel Blackburn, a member of the R.N.Z.A.F., single, of Ivaitangata. He received injuries from which he died in Kaitaia Hospital on Christmas Day. Mr D. W. Iloey, baker and confectioner, Awanui, was driving a car from Tva'laia within a short distance of Awanui. Rain was falling, and Blackburn, who was walking on the same side of the road and in the some direction, was struck by the left headlamp of the car. He was taken to hospital unconscious and did not rally.
COLLISION AT WESTPORT.
(P.A.) WESTPORT, Doc. 26. When a motor-car and light lorry collided at the intersection of Brougham Street and Russell Street. Westport, on Friday afternoon Mrs T. N. Mitchell, wife of the driver of the lorry, received a broken leg, fractured skull, and other injuries. A four-weeks-old son of Mrs Mitchell escaped miraculously with only slight scratches.
