The Manawatu Cup was won by Sir Solo in 2.38. He was ridden by 11. Lowe and started 11th favourite. Tho sum of £28,976 was put through the totalisator. Tho Auckland Cup was won by Bobrikotf in 3.29. Disastrous gales in Britain had caused anxiety for the safety of Channel shipping. Abnormal tides occurred in the Solent. Portsmouth and Southampton were flooded. The ,battlcship New Zealand lost her topmast and wireless gear. A shipping strike was feared in New South Wales.
