Mr Crawford was a foundation member of the branch and of the executive. Referring to Mr Day, ho remarked that ho was one of the early settlers of the Wairarapa. Resolutions carried unanimously were as follow: (1) That this branch recommends the Dominion Executive of the Farmers’ Union to co-operate with the Meat and Dairy Boards in an effort to establish a national veterinary service, to be under the control of the various farming organisations. And with that object in view, we suggest the establishment of a chair of veterinary science for students of Ihe Dominion. (2) That this branch make representations to the Government, with a view to releasing from taxation that portion ‘of a farmers’ income whirh would ordinarily go to the maintenance of the productive capacity of tho land, as it: considers it an injustice to take in' taxation money which, if labour and fertilisers were available, would Jje utilised-to maintain a property in good producing order and repair; arid not. to leave the farmer at.a later stage to face heavy ' expenditure with greatly depleted funds. (3) That in view of the very large surplus (£1,555,000) in the central fund, and also considering the improved outlook in the war situation, the Government be requested to substantially reduce tho amount of tho war' damage insurance premium. Mr T. J. Cotter said tho branch was very fortunate in having such an efficient and capable chairman as Mr Bremner; He'took the keenest, possible inlerest in tho affairs and activities of the union and it, was mainly due to his energy and ability that the branch was on. such a sound footing. ~
