LIGHTING RESTRICTIONS

CONSIDERABLE RELAXATION. Mr W. A. Waters (Lighting Controller for the boroughs of Fcilding and Eoxton, as well as the Manawatu, Kairanga, Oroua, Pohangina, and Iviwitea counties) has received official advice from the Dominion Lighting Controller as to the extent to which the lighting restrictions are now relaxed. , ~. , The Gazette notice was to bo published vosterday, and it was slated that there would not be timo to advise control crs fully before tho Christmas holidays, but the following summarised tho position tor the. districts oukide of Wellington and Auckland cities: (a) No lights inside or outside a building can be left on time switch control. , , , ~ (b) No light shall be left burning it unattended. . (c) So. long as tho suspension not co remains in force there will be no restrictions of any description placed upon the use of lights and lighting. (d) No alterations shall bo made to the wiring of cars which have been altered to conform to tho requirements in headlights and parking areas. That is the cars will be ready for a possible reversion to tho vehicle lighting restrictions, but in the meantime the headlight restrictions arc suspended, except in the two areas named. Street lights must be wired up to a central control point so that a b'.ackout can be instituted at once in case of emergency. , The public are asked not to discard any screens, blinds, or shrouds which have been used for tho "brownout," but are advised to carefully store them, so that in the event of tho restrictions being once' again introduced it will bo possible to do so without undue delay. While there have never boon any head- ' light restrictions introduced in tho Manawatu area, motorists proceeding to Wellington city should remember that in that area, the headlight restrictions are still in force.
