R.A.F. VERY ACTIVE
WIDE AREA COVERED MANY TARGETS BOMBED LONDON, Dec' 23. R.A.F. bombers crossed and recrossed the Channel yesterday afternoon. At one time a large formation going out was passed by an equally large number of aircraft coming in. The bombers flew at a great height and left large clouds of vapour in the sky. , In France and the Low Countries last night over a large area much damage was done to enemy transport lines, railways, and canals. The raiders covered a great area from Holland to North-Western France. One pilot bombed a locomotive shed at Ghent, while another attacked airfields, one being at Abbeville. Last night Hudson bombers sought for targets along the coast of Holland and found a supply convoy. They scored hits on two vessels, one of which is believed to have been sunk.
General Spaatz (commanding the American air forces in Europe) has ]iaid a great tribute to the Royal Air Force. He says that no words of his can describe What he thinks of the British airmen and those who keep the planes going. He reminds Americans that the British taught the United States airmen combat flying.
