USE OF SACCHARINE.
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 24. Arrangements which have been made for the control of stocks of saccharine were announced last night by the Minister of Health (Mr Nordmoyer). He said that the export of saccharine from both England and the United States was severely restricted, and the Government had for some months been unable to purchase supplies. Realising the serious plight that diabetics and others would bo in if supplies of saccharine ran out, said the Minister, the Government persisted in its endeavours, and as a result of urgent representations to suppliers overseas was recently successful in janding a bulk consignment. "This has now been made up into tablets," said Mr Nordmeyer, "and in order that the limited stocks will not be too dispersed and that they will be reserved for persons who really need them, the tablets will not be available from chemists in the ordinary way but may be obtained from medical officers of health.
