DELAY IN TUNISIA
NEITHER SIDE READY
MEN AND ASMS POTJK IN (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright.) (Rec. 10.30 a.m.) RUGBY, Dec. 22. Tlie continued absence of anything more than minor activity in Tunisia indicates that neither side has yet assembled forces considered sufficient for an offensive. Men, arms, and supplies for ■ land and air operations arc pouring in from both sides, and it is only a matter of time before the first main moves in the battle for the African bridgehead are made.
To-day’s Cairo communique states: Large fires were started at Tunis and La Goulette when our bombers raided these ports on Sunday night. A single Ju 88 flying south towards tho coast of Tripolitania yesterday was destroyed by our long-range fighters. Three of our aircraft are missing.— Official Wireless.
