ESCAPE FROM HONG KONG.
BRITISH OFFICER’S TREK
(Roc 9.5 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 22. Wearing a British corporal’s uniform, Lieutenant A. J. Hordyk, a 28-year-old submarine officer, walked 1000 miles through occupied territory after escaping from a Hong Kong prison camp. Hordyk, was captured in December, 1941, when the Japanese sank his submarine off the Malayan coast. He told the Press that the Japanese occupation was so thin that lie did not trouble to hide his identity or travel at night during his six weeks’ walk, but the Chinese kept him informed of Japanese troop locations until lie reached Kunming, where Americans picked him up and flew him to Calcutta.
