(By “Nanette.”! I Mrs J. AV. Rutherfurd, of Union Street, will leave to-morrow lor Paekakariki. Mrs L. K. Andrews, of Union i Street, will spend the holidays at her ! cottage at Foxton Beach. I Mrs B. Nixon, of Queen Street, who has been staying with Mrs A. 13. Currie, of Patea, has returned home. I The friends of Mrs H. Miller, of ! Church Street, will regret to learn . that she is an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital. After the evening service at the i Wood Street Presbyterian Church j last Sunday, presentations were made ! by the choir to Miss Thacker (orgunI ist) and Mr F. W. G. McLeod (con- ; doctor). On behalf of the choir Mr |P. D. Clark spoke and he also voiced | the appreciation of the officers of St. Andrew’s Church to the organist and ■ conductor. Air Allen, who was the | lay preacher that evening, also spoke ion behalf of the laymen visiting Wood Street throughout the year. Mr I McLeod responded on behalf of Miss ! Thacker and himself and thanked the choir for their gifts. An afternoon tea party at the Rosco tearooms concluded a successful year for the Sunshine Club, a large number of members being present. The .tables were decorated with pastel shaded sweet peas and St. Joseph lilies. In the absence of the president (Mrs E. A. Shaw) the members and two, special guests, Mesdames J. N. Lucas and G. Long, were welcomed by Mrs E. Doherty. She expressed the hope that the club s activities for 1943 would he as suci eessful as the current year. A special feature was the exchange of Christmas gifts and greetings. Tt was , announced that the club would, ns in previous years, go into recess until early in February. Regret was expressed that Airs Shelley was a patient in hospital and members contributed towards a Christmas gift.
