HEAVYWEIGHT PIGS

(Press Assn.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 11. Tho Minister of Agriculture (Mr J. G. Barclay) stated to-day that ns a result of the recent conference with representatives of tho National Pig Industry Council he has decided to extend tho dato of acceptance of heavyweight pigs from Januury 1 to January 9. This arrangement means that pigs up to 180 lb. weight delivered at works up to and including January 9 are to be accepted at tho current export price schedule. As from January 10 next tho maximum weight for export pigs will be reduced to 1601 b., and, as was tho case last season, operators will be requested •to allow a tolerance of 51b. and pay tho oxport schedulo price (up to a maximum of 1601 b.) for pigs which actually weigh up to 1651 b. and which can be converted into " Wiltshire sides of suitable weights. The reason for this alteration is to allow pig producers sufficient time to dispose of their heavyweight pigs and adjust their programme of "production to tho amended limits without unduo hardship.
