U-BOAT MENACE
ALLIES’ MAIN PROBLEM
THE AXIS GAMBLE
(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright.) (Rec. 10.50 a.m.) RUGBY, Nov. 18. Another reminder was given today by tlie First Lord of the Admiralty (Mr Alexander) that there is no final victory yet, and that the Üboats remain the greatest of all our problems at sea. “We have so far succeeded in keeping our ocean Janes open,” lie said. “Whatever the dangers and menace of tho U-boat wo are not without our answer.” Never in the whole of the last three years has it been more necessary, continued Mr Alexander, to insist on tho maximum possible effort if we arc to expand the advantage we have gained to build the foundations of victory. The First Lord also commented that it was probably because the Axis Powers gambled on their theory that air power could defeat the sea power of Britain that they have not accomplished their purpose. Sea power had won, ns was demonstrated in the last few days.—Official Wireless.
