GENERAL BLAMEY’S WORK

(9.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 19. High praise for the part taken by General Blarney, commander of the Allied land forces in New Guinea, was paid by Mr Curtin, who quoted from the order of the day issued by General Blarney to the troops on September 27. That order, said Mr Curtin, was the direction to the troops that they must take the offensive and stay on the offensive until the Japanese were driven from the island. The order said: “We have our comrades in Malaya and Pearl Harbour to avenge. Let us go forward and hit wherever lie gives us a chance, then follow up and hit again and again until he is beaten and destroyed.”
