ACUTE LABOUR SHORTAGE
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 7. The position on sheep is so acute that unless rapid action is taken bv the Government the wool industry is likely to face a major crisis this season, said a number of Auckland men prominently connected with tho industry to-day. The new season's wool which has arrived in Auckland is well below tho usual quantity, and while the recent wet weather is one factor the principal cause is said to be the shortage of shearers. If tho clip is to be handled expeditiously, it is contended, it will be necessary to release from military camps all shearers for as long as possible. "We are having the greatest difficulty in getting men released by the Appeal Boards," said a -farming spokesman. "The situation is complicated by tho fact that many shearers have gone overseas." Iho spokesman stated that on ono North Auckland holding only one man was available to shear 60,000 sheep, whi o neighbours were in almost as difficult a position.
