NEW NAZI THRUSTS
DIRECTED AT OIIIFIELDS QUICK RESULTS SOUGHT LONDON, Ocb. 7. "While the fighting at Stalingrad continues to take first place in the news from Russia, all of the messages stress the import- ' ance of new and powerful enemy attacks being launched in the Caucasus, where the Germans are trying to make a quick breakthrough to the Grozny oilfields and also to reach the Black Sea port of Tuapse. So far the enemy has not succeeded in making any important gains, in spite of his heavy losses in men and material. The Red Army continues to hold its positions in 'Stalingrad, and the breach made by the enemy in one place yesterday has been repaired. The News-Chronicle correspondent at Moscow says that the Russians have completely thrown the enemy right back to his original positions, while outside the city the Russians are still attacking and in one sector have completely cut off a Rumanian force.
