EXTRACTS FROM "STANDARD." OCTOBER 8. 1912.
Serbian troops had been repulsed all along the Turkish frontier. Tho Bulgarian Government had declared that the terms Turkey wished to enforce would satisfy nobody, as Macedonian autonomy was still not a feature of the proposed reforms.
In Australia strong agitation had taken place against an Early Closing Bill. The shopkeepers had strongly condemned interference with business.
The Belgian Government had decided toenlist one son in every family for the army, thus giving the country a minimum annual contingent of 30,000, and a war footing of 250,000. The Governor-General of Australia had been ejected from his residence in Syd ney. by the State Labour Government, which had failed to secure a rental of £3500 per annum from the Federal Government. The --upkeep of Government House in the past had been paid by the State, but the new State Government had decided to seek a rental to pay for alterations, etc. Widespread indignation had been aroused by tho Government's discourteous treatment of the King's representative.
