AFTER STORMY TRIP

R.A.F. RAIDS GERMANY

WIDESPREAD DAMAGE LONDON, Oct. 6. The R.A.F. last night sent a strong force of bombers over Western Germany. The Germans admit widespread damage, though as usual they stress the damage the bombers did to residential districts.

The flight was made in bad weather, the planes passing through hail, rain, and thunderstorms.

This afternoon British Mosquito craft attacked a factory inland from the Dutch coast. Earlier in the day other Mosquitoes, following up last night’s raid by heavy bombers, attacked targets in Western Germany. The Official Wireless, in referring to the storms encountered, says that a flight-engineer of one bomber was temporarily blinded by lightning as he looked out of the astrodome. Ten of the bombers failed to return. One Lancaster was hit and damaged when over its target, but the 'pilot managed to bring it home. Among those who took part in the raid was the recently formed FrenchCanadian Squadron. Britain had a raid-free night. ENEMY SHIP DAMAGED. A German armed minesweeper of about 500 tons was attacked and set on fire off the French . coast near Berch to-day by two Spitfires. The pilots made two attacks with cannon and machine-guns from opposite directions from between 500 and 1000 ft. As the Spitfires made for home they saw that the minesweeper had run aground.. The shore batteries opened up, but neither of the aircraft was hit.
