BOXING TOURNAMENT
Plenty of action was seen in a boxing tournament held in the Opera House, last evening, by the Manawatu Boxing Association, the proceeds from which go to the prisoners of war parcel fund. The bouts followed each other in quick succession, and were of three rounds each. There was a good attendance. The following were the officials:—Referees, Messrs H. A. Harvey and G. Watchorn; announcer, Lieutenant R. R. Morton; medical stewards, Lieutenant B. W. Nixon and Dr. J. S. Monro; stage manager, Mr J. Purves; call stewards, Messrs J. Pollard and A. Trepo; timekeepers, Messrs Dalzcll and M. O’Brien. The results were as follow, the decisions - being on points except whero otherwise stated: — A. Mcßae (7,0) beat K. Woodill (6.9); F. Hubbard (8.0) beat A. McDonald (7.0); C M. Cuff (9.1) beat I. O’Hara (9.5); Pte. Philalis (11.1) drew with Pte. Caspcrson (12.1); Pte. Pratt (9.0) beat Pte. McPherson (8.8); Spr. Dunn (10.4) beat Pte. Fitzwatcr (10.8), on a knock-out ; Pte. Bullard (9.1) beat Pte. Payne (9.1); Pte. Winslanlcy (11.6) beat Lt. Calkin (12.1); Gnr Taylor (9.7) beat Dvr Morgan (9.3); Gnr. Tracey (10.0) beat Dvr. McCallum (11.0) on a knock-out; Pte. Cameron (9.12) beat Pte. Hazlcwood (9.10), the bout being stopped by the referee.
