Matlieson, of .Invercargill, is staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs H. I’. Lawry, of Victoria Avenue, while her husband is on militaryduties.

In September 96 Christmas parcels were packed by the Polish Army League in Palmerston North, the organisations helping being the Happiness Club, AV.D.E.U., working party of the National Club, Girls High School, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Rosemary Club, Cuba Street Methodist Guild and the Manawatu County Club. Parcels were also sent in by many private sympathisers and ]\lr Hickin contributed 60 tobacco tins already painted to be used as permanent soap boxes. Mrs W. Wilson, of College Street, Palmerston North, has received the sad news by cablegram of the death of her sister, Mrs Otto Konody, of Hollycroft Avenue. Hampstead, London. Mrs Konody, who was wellknown to many friends in New Zealand by her stage name of May Busbv. was a leading soprano in the Carl Rosa Opera Company for some time, and was also favourably known on tile concert platform. Though she did not visit' this country she had contemplated going to Australia when the arrangements fell through. In England and on the Continent Mrs Konodv mot quite a number of New Zealnnd people with whom she enjoyed friendships, and they wall regret to learn of liei passing a the earlv age of 48 years. Her death is attributed to the severe trials through which London people passed in the bombing raids.
