RAIN FOLLOWS GALES

Teeming rain, accompanied by hail, swept, the city yesterday afternoon in one of the heaviest daylight falls experienced in Palmerston North for a long time. Roadside gutters filled rapidly and citizens in the shopping area had perforce to remain under verandahs until the storm had passed. Snow fell in most parts of Southland yesterday morning, but except in the'high country it had disappeared by the , afternoon. Heavy rain also was experienced.
