TWO U.S. SHIPS SUNK
LOSSES IN SOLOMONS MANY MEN MISSING (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright.) (1.35 a.m.) WASHINGTON Sept. 24 The Navy Department has announced the loss of the destroyer Jnrvis and the auxiliary transport Little in the Solomons area. It is believed that approximately 250 lives were lost.
A London report 6tatcs that the Jarvis was damaged off Guadalcanal Island some weeks ago. It is presumed that she was lost in trying to get from Tulagi to another port for repairs. The loss of these two vessels brings the total of United Nations ships lost in the Solomons to eight. At least 22 enemy vessels have been sunk or damaged in the Solomons, said the Washington spokesman.
