MADAGASCAR OPERATIONS
LONDON, Sept. 24. A communique issued by General Platt, commander of the British forces in Madagascar, confirms the report that the capital,- Antananarivo, was occupied on Wednesday by the Imperial- Forces, supported by South African armoured cars and British artillery.' The troops were received with cheering by the whole population and the town ,'s quiet and cheerful. The French forces opposing the British advance surrendered unconditionally. A London report says that a British officer broadcast to tho people a proclamation by General Platt nhich stated that tho French flag would continue to fly where it was usually flown.
