BLOW AT U-BOATS
FLENSBURG ATTACKED THREE ENEMY SHIPS HIT LONDON, Sept. 24. Some of Britain’s heaviest bombers were over North and North-West Germany last night, when the chief target was Flensburg, on the Baltic, 45 miles north-west of Kiel. The planes flew through electrical storms, but there was bright moonlight over Flensburg, whero tho raiders came down low to deliver smashing blows on the submarine base. Off the Dutch coast, Coastal Command planes attacked an enemy convoy and scored hits on three merchant ships. From the night’s operations 10 planes are missing. Over the Bay of Biscay J ‘his morning R.A.F. fighters shot down two Ju 88’s.
Tho Luftwaffe sent three planes to attack England last night, but one was destroyed off tho coast. The other two dropped bombs, which did some damage and caused a few casualties.
This afternoon an enemy raider did some damage to a place on the south-east coast. ’
Jt is now known that in Tuesday’s raid on a place in Essex a school and a cinema were destroyed and five people wore killed. According to a Press Association cable the Berlin radio says that the R.A.F. last night carried out a nuisance raid on the northern coastal area. Bombs caused some damage and destruction to buildings in residential areas. Tho .Luftwaffe raided important war objectives in a town in Eastern England.
