GERMAN EFFORTS SMASHED

SEVERE LOSS OF TANKS NO NEW GAINS AT STALINGRAD LONDON, Sept. 24. A tremendous new effort by the Germans to smash through to the centre of Stalingrad has been defeated by the defenders.
