Mrs J. A. Harris,, of Turakina, president of the Manawatu branch of the National Council of Women, is visiting Wellington for a meeting of the executive of the council.
There was a good attendance at a meeting of St. Andrew’s Women’s Social Guild at which Mrs M. Aitchison presided. Sympathy was expressed with Mesdames H. Voss and T. G. Graham, who are ill. Guests present, members of the Lutheran Guild, were welcomed by Mrs Aitchison. The speaker, Rev. C. B. Boggis, chose as his subject “The Treasures Found in Darkness”. Items contributed by Misses N. Cox and M. Sanford (vocal) and Mrs F. Shearman (elocutionary) were enjoyed.
It was peach blossom time in the National Club lounge yesterday afternoon, when the fifth bridge party of the season was held. The piano was massed with peach blossom, also the four window sills, while a large blue bowl of beautiful double pink stock, intermingled with blue wood hyacinth, caught the eye on entering. There were 14 tables and the bridge prizes were donated by Mrs C. G. Hayward and Mrs F. J. Duckworth. The contract prize was won by Mrs G. 11. Mills and the auction by Mrs E. J. Rosa.
Mrs E. Carne (president) welcomed members and their friends at the monthly meeting of the Happiness Club.- A sales table brought in the sum of £9 to be added to the funds. Elocutionary items by Mrs F. Shearman and Miss B. Richardson, vocal solos by Mrs M. K. Mclntyre, and violin solos hy Mr A. Smith made an enjoyable programme. A competition, the prize for which was donated bv Miss A Stillborn, was won by Mrs A. 'Wright, and the lucky cup by Mrs P. Butcher. Birthday honours were accorded Mrs I. Little and Mrs P. Power.
Members of the Rosemary Club entertained about 40 soldiers at a bright dance at the National Club rooms. The guests were welcomed by Mrs J. Riddle (president) and Mrs "Wilde (vice-president) and the arrangements were in the charge of Mrs Hall (secretary). Competitions and dancing passed the time away, the music was supplied iree of charge by Mr F. Caple, and the duties ot M.C. were carried out by Mr G. Kensington. Donations were received from Mesdames F. Sollitt, \\. F. Field, Riddle. J. Walker, W. Jacques, Rumbokl, Arlidge, Smyth, and Sycamore.
To-morrow members of the Manawatu Ladies’ Golf Club will play a medal round for a points competition. The draw is at the clubhouse and anyone unable to play is to ring Mrs L. Seifert.
