SEARCH FOR OIL
BORING AT MT. STEWART.
(Press Assn.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 25, Referring to the search for oil in New Zealand the Minister of - Mines (Mr Webb) said that two of the largest and most modern drilling plants in the world commenced operations this week, one at Cape Terraco, near Kumnra, in the South Island, and the other at Mt. Stewart, in the Manawntu district. Both are being operated by the Superior
Oil Coy. A third largo drill is expected to commence boring in a fortnight in the Ilangitikci district, near Alarton.
Mr Webb said that the New Zealand Petroleum C’o’s bore at Devon, near New Plymouth, is down 6000 ft, and at Midhirst the Taranaki Company had drilled to 11,0001’t, the deepest bore iiv the Southern Hemisphere, but the well proved dry’. “We have some of the best drilling experts in the world operating in the Dominion,” the Minister added.
