VETERAN BOWLERS

Another very enjoyable afternoon was spent by elderly bowlers in the city at the Terrace End green on Wednesday afternoon when the members of the three clubs on the eastern side of the railway line were hosts to the clubs with headquarters to the west. The recent heavy rain and threatening morning prevented visitors further afield from attending; nevertheless six full rinks assembled and completed one game of ten heads before rain set in and play was discontinued for the day. Before the games commenced Mr J. J. O'Shea, on behalf of the hosts, extended a cordial welcome to all and expressed his pleasure at seeing so many present to avail themselves of the joys of association which it is tho object of the promoters of these gatherings to afford to all elderly bowlers. He had been requested to mention, on behalf of the Terrace End Club, that the green and all other facilities Would always be gladly placed at their disposal whenever required. At the afternoon tea adjournment Mr J. Kershaw (Northern) returned thanks on behalf of the visitors, wherein special reference was made to the generous refreshments dispensed by Mrs Dixon and her lady companions; and to Mr W. Howe for his trouble in preparing the green. As an alternative to continuing play in drizzling rain it was decided by vote to take advantage of this favourable opportunity to hold the first annual meeting.
