MAGISTRATE'S COURT
In the Magistrate's Court before Messrs W. G. Ashworth and J. T Bos worth, J.P.'s, William Marshall Ramsden, a traveller, was charged with the theft of £lO from G. H. Lankshear, and also that, with intent to defraud, he obtained from Lankshear the sum of £lO by falsely representing that he was a sailor off a boat in Wellington and that ho required £lB to release a irireless set from Canada, previously ordered by Lankshear, as there was duty to pay on it. Detective-Sergeant A. B. Meiklejohn stated that the theft charge would not be proceeded with and Mr G. C. Petersen, who appeared for defendant, entered a plea of not guilty on the second charge. After the hearing of evidence defendant was committed to the Supreme Court at Wellington for trial on May 4. bail on his own recognisance of £-30 being allowed.
