LIFEBOATS RAMMED

After sinking a British merchant vessel near Java, u Japanese submarine inhumanly ramnieu the lifeboats containing the survivors. it has now been revealed that, in January, . when the British steamei Kwantung was south of Java, site was torpedoed early in the day, without warning, by a Japanese submarine, which surfaced and rammed a lifeboat with the master in charge, smashing it. The ship's chief officer, in charge ol another lifeboat, went to the rescue of the others, but the second lifeboat was also rammed by the enemy, who then disappeared. Only 13 men out of the total crew of 98 were left alive.
for the next 21 hours the men clung to pieces of the wrecked lifeboats, and one died. Finally they sighted a. steamer and were picked up.
