Included in the list of naval ratings who have been reported missing is Able Seaman Brian J. Barford, of Hamilton. He is a grandson of Mr and Mrs S. H. Sncll, of Terrace End, and their many friends will hope that news of Seaman Barford's safety will be received at an early date. Mr E. D. Grinstead, of Wanganui, a grandson of Mr and Mrs H. Grinstead, of Palmerston North, has received notice that in the recent University examinations he has won his M.A. degree with second-class honours. This is an achievement of credit for a young man of 20. A few days ago he addressed the Wanganui Church of Christ, this bringing him into the fourth generation of preachers. The death took place at Duncdin of Mr Ernest Charles John Foot, a prominent member of the Public Service. He joined in 1914 the Registrar-Gen-eral's Department in Wellington. Several years later he was appointed registrar of births, deaths and marriages in Palmerston North, and after a period of service in the same capacity at Timaru, was shifted to Duncdin to take over the duties of district employment officer in 1931, and at the time of his death was attached to the National Service Department. Lieut.-Colonel A. Tennent. of Wellington, who is reported missing, believed to be a prisoner of war, is a son of the late Mr R*. C. Tennent, and Mrs Tennent, formerly of Woodville, and brother of the late Mrs P. H. Mules. He was appointed to command the Fourth Field Ambulance in November last. Dr. Tennent was medical officer to the Coronation Contingent, and after the Coronation .he was engaged in professional work in London and at the Mayo Clinic, in the United States. He went overseas with, the First Echelon from New Zealand, | and was commanding officer of the j first convalescent hospital in lsmailiabefore rejoining his unit.
