BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL.

Mr A. A. Langley presided at the annual meeting of the Palmerston North Boys’ High School Parents’ Association, held this week. The report, which was adopted states: “The financial position is quite sound. \\ o started the year with a credit balance of £l6O 7s 6d in the current account and finished it with a credit of £143 4s 6d. During this year we contributed £25 for cricket material, £ll for a cricket .score board, £3O to the games club. £2O for tuition fees for the drum and bugle band. £5 to the drama club, £5 for a radio set for school use, £3O as a donation towards the cost of a new mower, while we made a grant of £lO towards the cost of the travelling expenses of the hockey team to Auckland. The new assembly hall fund stands at £IOB 7s Id and no additions were made to this in the past year.” The balance-sheet presented by the treasurer (Mr J. A. West) showed a highly satisfactory financial position. Votes of thanks were accorded to members of the executive retiring this year, and in particular Mr J. lv. Raton, who is retiring from tho executive and from the position of lion, secretary which ho has filled with conspicuous success for six years, and Mr P. B. Trow, an old boy of the school, for auditing the books. The rector (Mr J. Murray) welcomed both old and new members, and recapitulated the objects for which the association was founded. He voiced the school’s thanks to all those parents who in various ways gave practical assistance during the year to its activities. The school was really a unity embracing pupils, staff, the governing body, and the Old Boys’ and Parents’ Associations, and to these the school Wits indebted for many of its amenities. 'Phe generous interest taken bv parents in its functions was appreciated, and the staff also welcomed the opportunity that the meeting afforded them to discuss with parents matters affecting the welfare of the boys. Parents had the opportunity of interviewing members of the staff, and the science laboratories and library were open for inspection Later the school string sextette rendered a bracket of enjoyable items and their playing reflected great credit on Miss D. S. Baker, by whom thev had been trained. The personnel of'the sextette was C. liardie, M. Adler. F. Turner, Z. Bartlett, C. Boock and K. Collier A short play “Something to Talk About’’ was staged by a cast of the Dramatic Club, comprising M. Oliver, G. Lee, D. Hope, D. Dale, P. Stitchburv, Z. Bartlett and C. Small. They acquitted themselves well and to them and the producer (Mr H. K. McKay) the audience expressed congratulations. The executive elected for the coining year is : Mr and Mrs A. A. Langley, Mr and Mrs J. L. Nash, Mr and Mrs T. L. Seator, Mr and Mrs G. Perrin, Mr and Mrs R. H. Connal, Dir and Mrs D. Rabone, Mr and Mrs G. Bennett, Mr and Mrs J. S. Hornblow, Mr and Mrs F. Cousins, Mesdames C. Louisson, ,T. Davidson, B. Black, J. B. Speedy, H. Palmer. B. A. Yelverton, A. W. Hudson and Messrs S. A. C. Darby, J. A. West (treasurer) and B. Abraham (secretary).
