EXTRACTS FROM “ STANDARD,” JULY 29, 1911.
A late cablegram from Sydney mentioned that unconfirmed reports stated that Britain had served Germany an ultimatum in regard to the Moroccan situation. In the House of Commons, Sir Edward Grey had said that before any further reforms wore made in regard to Egypt the views of the men with a knowledge of Egyptian affairs would be sought. A serious housing shortage was reported in Auckland. Houses of five or six rooms with tiie rents varying from 10s to £1 were exceedingly scarce. During a heavy sea when. slie was 800 miles from Tahiti on ‘’June 20, the barque Puritan sprang a leak and a week later sank during another storm. The crew look to the two boats. One boat foundered and all hands were drowned.
