MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M.. presided at a sitting of the Magistrate's Court ycslcrday, Catherine Lucy Archibald was charged that, at Pahiatua, on Juno 23, with intent to defraud, she obtained from W. 11. Lawrv a motor truck by falsely representing that she was receiving the sum of £2OO from a deceased person’s estate and that she would pay the sum of £29 12s 6d for repairs to the truck out of the £2OO. She pleaded guilty. Detective \V. K. Fell, who conducted the case for tho police, related the circumstances leading up to the purchase of tho truck. There had been an accident to the truck in May and it had been put into complainant’s garage for repairs. Defendant was admitted to probation lor two years, a condition'lieing that she return the truck to the garage and leave it there until tho account, is paid. V. Hannah, charged with driving without a license and ah;o driving without due care and attention, was fined £2 and costs 10s on tho first charge and 10s, with costs 10s on tho second. M. J. Kennedy was charged with driving without due care and attention. Ho was represented by Mr A. M Ongley and pleaded not guilty. Sergeant \V. Drown stated that defendant was involved in a collision with a stationary car in Main Street and tho damage caused amounted to £3B. It was night time, but tile conditions were good. A fine of £5 ’ was imposed, with costs 11s; and defendant’s driving license was cancelled for a month Edward Thorne was charged with tho unlawful conversion of a bicycle valcd at £5. the property of F. W. Ward. lie pleaded not guilty. After hearing evidence, the Magistrate imposed a fine of £5, with costs 10s. E. O’Reilly was charged with selling liquor alter hours and with having his premises open for tho sale of liquor after hours. Arising out of the same circumstances I. Eepper was charged with unlawfully supplying liquor. They were represented by Mr Ongley and pleaded guilty. On the first charge O’Reilly was fined £3, with costs 10s, the second charge being withdrawn. Lepper was lined £2, with costs 10s.
