ENGINEERING ADVANCE.
(10.40 a.m.) NEW YORK, July 23. The American Chemical Society reported to-day the development of an entirely new type of_ explosive rivet which may prove an important factor in speeding up aircraft production and simplifying design. High-explosive is secreted in a cavity at the end of the shank, and heat is applied by an electric gun which detonates the charge. The whole operation is performed from one side with greater ease and speed than is possible with the means now in use. Riveting will be . stepped up from four to fifteen per minute.
