WELLINGTON, July 23 A request that the Attorney-General should advise the House why the flogging ordered to be imposed on prisoners who gravely assaulted warders in the Mt. Eden gaol had not been carried out was containeu in the notice of a question to the Minister by Mr W. J. Broadfoot (Nat., Waitomo) when the House met to-day. Mr Broadfoot pointed out that, if the flogging was not carried out within six months, its imposition then by law automatically lapsed. lls also asked what steps had been taken to afford warders in gaols adequate protection in future.
