As the result of a social afternoon arranged by Mesdames L. Campbell and J. and E. Bielski, and held at the home of Mrs J. Bielski on Saturday, the sick and wounded fund will benefit by the sum of £2 Gs. The friends of Mrs C. F. Spooner, who has been ill, will be pleased to learn that she lias recovered anti is again taking up her customary interests. At the meeting, yesterday, of the Willard Home Board, of which she is a member, she was accorded a special welcome by the chairwoman (Mrs E. A. Collins). All the members of the child care class of the W.W.S.A. in Palmerston North satisfied the examiners (Misses A. M. Kearns and M. Poole), as iollow :—Mesdames A. Wright, Duggan, King, T. Andrews (the last-named to complete the oral test), Misses C. Bates, L. Bennett, N. Bradfield, C. Field, M. Catley and J. Judd.

The matron of the Palmerston North Hospital (Miss L. M. Banks) informed the Hospital Board yesterday that an offer of assistance to make linen stock tor use in emergency' hospitals was received recently from the sewing circle of the Bed Cross. Afrs Richardson (convener of this circle) and her group of ladies have made to date 260 covers, and are willing to assist further in this way.

Of 1J nurses who sat lor the State final examination, 11 were successful. Mrs E. A. Shaw (president) welcomed the members and triends, and the hostesses were Mesdames E. McMillan, B. Johnstone, and D. Watson. A bright programme ot musical items was enjoyed; those contributing songs were Alesdames Marshall, Sadd, Biglnim, and Mosking, while little Bernice Moodhill, ot Longburn, danced a sailor’s hornpipe. A game was won by Airs Sadd. the president announced that the club has decided to. send a parcel of comforts to each soldier whose next-of-kin is a member of the club; this is apart from the other activities. The donation of one guinea tins month goes to the A\ illard Home. Congratulations and musical honours were accorded Airs Stopiord (mother of Airs A. G. Fariand) on attaining her 80th birthday. Airs O. Shaw thanked all who contributed items. The accompanists were Mesdames Boon, Bigham and Hodson.
