CHURCHILL TANK.

THE KING IMPRESSED

REMARKABLE POWER.

(Rec. 9.57 a.m.) RUGBY, July 21. The King recently took charge of one 0* the new “Churchill” heavy tanks showing its performance over hilly ground. His Majesty was visiting a factory where these tanks—Britain’s latest and most formidable instrument of the kind—are being mass-produced. During a half-hour ride in a tank on the testing ground near the factory he /ok control of the machine as it charged at high speed up a hill and then turned and thundered down towards the party of experts watching with interest.

The King, when he climbed out of the tur*et, said how much he had been impressed l>y the manoeuvrability ot the tank and congratulated the directors ot the factory on the comfort and s|ieed which the tank incorporated. His Majesty was also interested in its terrific gun-power and spent a long time examining the armament of the vehicle. The Churchills are probably the most formidable fighting instrument possessed by any army m the world. They are heavily armoured, giving maximum protection to the crews, but, in spite ol their weight they are able to move over any kind of ground at startling speed. Terrific gun-power is concentrated in the minimum ot space, and it is unlikely that many enemy machines exist that could s\nd up for long to their devastating fire. —Official Wireless.
