WORKS EQUIPMENT

The Palmerston North City Council, last evening, authoiiseci the expenditure of £403 19s for equipment for the civic engineering works committee of the Emergency Precautions Scheme. The material is to be stored at three depots where it will be readily available and reasonably close to areas where it might he required. Cr J. T. J. Heat.ley, as chairman of the civic works committee, said the sum represented the minimum of the committee’s requirements and practically all the items were for tools or material which were ordinarily used by local bodies.

The Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) said that, with the exception of the ambulance committee, this was the only one requiring expenditure at the moment, and ho moved that this he authorised. Cr G. Tremaine seconded tile motion, remarking that 80 per cent, of the equipment was just “stock'’ and could he used by the council later. The motion was carried.
