FOXTON’S REQUEST.

HOSPITAL AND ANNEXE

The desire of tho people of Foxton to huvo a maternity home with a casualty annexe established there was discussed by tho Palmerston North Hospital Board, to-day, when a letter was received from the Foxton Borough Council stating that, as tho result of a public meeting, a committee had been set up to further tho project. The council had authorised tho Mayor (Mr M. E. Perrcau) to ofler (ho board any section of land in the ownership of tho council as a sito for the proposed hospital. Contrary to reports circulated in tho Press, tlie council, however, had not resolved to purchase a section and present it to tho board, although it was mentioned that if a section already owned by tho council suitablo for tho purpose could not ho found, then possibly tho people of Foxton would themselves subscribe towards the purchase of a suitable section. , The chairman (Mr J. A. Nash), before reading the letter, recalled that a committee of investigation had been set up by the board to deal with coun try centres. It had been to Feilding and made an inspection of nursing homes. Foxton and Levin had yet to j be visited. I Continuing. Mr Nash said tho comI mittco had no authority to meet any deputation with representations to make and ho suggested that it be given such authority. It was hoped to have a full report on its investigations for tho next meeting. Mr J. Hodgens, M.P., moved a motion on theso lines and it was carried. Mr Perrcau said he appreciated the fact that the board would meet the committee.
