RUGBY FOOTBALL

KIA TOA WIN SECOND ROUND. Favoured by beautiful spring weather, Kia Toa and the combined Feiiding and Feiiding Old Boys teams gave a bright display on the Sporti-ground as the main Rugby football attraction on Saturday. The ground favoured back movements and the public wifntnsed a number of good lorays by tltc Kia Toa rearguard. Although the result was a draw. Kia Toa emerge as winners of the second round of the competition and will meet United, winners of the first round, to decide the season’s champions. Old Boys scored a s—o victory over University, and United beat St. Patrick's by 10 points to 3 at Rugby I’ark. A DRAWN CAMk With two penalty goals each. Kia Toa and the combined Feiiding teams drew 6-all. The game was a hard one. By means o! fast forward rushes Kia Toa had their opponents defending hard, but Pollard, who lias proved a safe custodian this season, relieved with a long kick. Shortly afterwards Pollard opened the visitors’ account with a penalty goal. Frequent infringements spoilt K’a Tea's chances of opening their score. Carr missed with a penalty kick and Fill’s attempt at a field goal fell under the bar, the Feiiding side clearing. Carr’s attempt at a further penalty goal from near halfway went ont.-ido the uprigli; and the visitors forced. Making the game a forward one after the interval, the Feiiding team kept play ill mid-field and they did not allow the Kia Toa backs to get going. The visitors were getting the bail from ihe majority of the serums, but tbeir backs let them down. From an infringement Pollard kicked bis second |x-na!tv goal. Offside infringements were frequent and from an easy position under the posts Wishnowskv added another three points to Kia Toa’s total. Barton retired with a leg injury and was replaced by Walker. The game was not remarkable for decisive play in either the forwards or the backs, and the sides were fairly evenly matched. In tine ear y part United bad much the better of the game, but St. Patrick's later held United in tbeir own half and Fitzpatrick put over a penalty kick. Half-time followed without further score, the St. Patrick’s team holding United well.
