JAPANESE IN MONGOLIA. LONDON. Julv 20,

Reports from Peking state that the Japanese are concentrating troops there for transport to Mnnciiukuo or Inner Mongolia. The majority of these troops have been withdrawn from Shansi Province. Shanghai reports state that troop trains are already rushing Japanese forces to Kalgan, in Inner Mongolia It is suggested that the Japanese are strengthening their forces along Russia’s Far Eastern frontiers

The Chinese Central News Agency, Chungking, reports that Chinese Communists have attacked Government forces in the south-east of the Shansi and Shantung Provinces. Communists also attacked Chinese guerrillas operating against the Japanese. It is authoritatively stated that the Government is taking necessary -steps, but that no punitive expedition is planned.

Mr Owen Lattimore. an expert on Mongolia, has arrived in Chungking io become special adviser to Marshal Chiang Kai-shek. He brought a petition from exiled Manchurians praying for the liberation of General Hsuehjiang, the former war lord who has been a prisoner since his foreps kidnapped Marshal Chiang in 1936. Further large reinforcements of lioyul Air Force airmen have arrived at Singapore from England.
