WAR SERVICE AUXILIARY

There was a. large attendance at the first dance held under the auspices of the Alanawatu Women’s War Service Auxiliary in the Little Theatre on Saturday evening. The function had been arranged as a compliment fox those members who have joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force. The committee, comprising Alisses Al. Christensen, Al. Fauchelle, J. Allen. L. Torstonson, and E. Sandman (secretary) carried through all the arrangements and they had the support of Alessrs A. W. Chapman and J. Brown in controlling a programme ot popular dances. The music was supplied by a professional orchestra. Novelty dances were won hv Aliss L. Torstonson and Air AlcAlTister (Gay Gordons) and Aliss D. Ward and part ner (Alonte Carlo). Aliss C. Warburton, chairman of the district committee. apologised for the absence of the Ma vor and Mayoress, the latter being patroness, Air and Mrs Alansford having a prior engagement. She commended the members who had shown their practical interest in the war efforl by enrolling in the W.A.A.F. Musical honours and cheers were accorded these recruits, who were presented with shoulder sprays, and colours. the work of Mesdnines Hartog. I). Evans. Bale, and Miss D. Fi t /.- Horliort. As an interlude, two humorous items were given hv Alessrs E. R. and A. AY. Chapman, Air F. AlcLachlan being the accompanist.

A record number of patrons filled tho dance floor of the Cosmopolitan Hall on Saturday evening when the Alanawatu Scottish Society held another ingleside. Atusic was supplied by a professional orchestra and extras by Air Thompson. A Alonte Carlo wait/, was won by Air and Mrs Greer and the lneky Gay Gordons by Aliss Duthie and Air W. Barrett.
