TAKARO ASSOCIATION.

‘The goneral committee of the Takaro Progressive Association held its monthly meeting this week. Mr P. T. Jamieson presiding. The chairman made reference to tho passing of the laic Afr 11. W. Spring, cf Burns Avenue, a motion of condolence being passed with Mrs Spring and family. 3ho Railway Department advised that the association’s romplaint regarding the state of Alain Street at a private siding had been submitted to tho d.strict Irafiic manager for his attention. (Since the meeting the crossing has been attended to and is now in first-class order.) The City Council also wrote stating that the association'll communication regarding tho state of Main Street had been forwarded to the Railway Department with a request that the matter receive early attention. In reply to a letter from tho association regarding Burns Avenue, tho council intimated that tlie work of tar-seal-ing this thoroughfare is included in tho tar-scaling programme lo bo carried out this year. Tho chairman said it was pleasing to note the general cleaning-up tho district was receiving at present: lie was of the opinion that tho district received its full thare in the yeaily expenditure; much careful thought had to be given to these matters, and he was sure, from observation, that the council was working along sound lines. He also mentioned that part of Botanical Road is to Vie tar-sealed this year. Residents of Botanical Road wrote asking that tho association approach tho council with a view to having tho bus Service- to tbe district extended so ns Lo include Botanical Road between Coclivood Street and Feathcrston Street, pointing out tho benefit residents of this area would derive from the service. This matter liad been placed before the council on r previous occasion by the association, but owing to the nature of the old bridge in Botanical Road it was deemed by tho council inadvisable to extend the service. I’ho association is again to approach the ■ouijcil asking for favourable consideration if this extension in view of the fact that :ho old bridge has been replaced by a nodern structure. I) Comjiany of the Home Guard wrote asking for tho help of be ladies’ committee of the association in jrganising a dance to extend tho social ;ide of the company's activities. It was igreed to help. Mailers pertaining to tho innual reunion to be held shortly were ■ompleled. A small sub-committee was set ip to obtain entertainers. Supper arrangcnonts were left in the hands of the ladies’ lomniittce. Tho annual canvass of the dis riot for members is proceeding satisfacorily and the. roll shows every sign of oming up to last year’s number.
