FRAYED NERVES

ENEMY HARRIED. TOBRUK OPERATIONS. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Rec. 11 a.in.) RUGBY, July 18. A Cairo communique states that in Libya , on the night of July 1617, another of our patrols made a deep penetration into enemy positions south of Tobruk".

Casualties were again inflicted on the enemy, whose nerves are evidently becoming frayed as lie is now resorting to the use of searchlights for ground observation at night. In the frontier area our patrols yesterday engaged enemy armoured cars, which beat a rapid retreat. A Press message from Cairo says that the Italian troops at Tobruk suffered a shock by the Australians’ previous deep penetration. The patrol was ordered to attack only one strong point, but it subsequently found another, which was also -mopped up. Italians are holding the greater part of this sector, while the Germans are concentrating on the Egyptian frontier.
