MISAPPLIED TAXES.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —When the additional Is in the £1 on wages and income was imposed, the Government guaranteed, this extra tax was a national security war tax, and that the amount received would Iho used solely for war purposes. We I now find the Government has included ] this tax with the social security, both iof which are estimated in the Budget iat £10.600,000. and which sum represents double the amount of last year’s : tax. This proves that the extra levy : has been switched into the Social Se- ■ curity .Fund, and which this Governi ment had every intention of doing when they levied the extra' Is in the £1 tax, although bluffing it would not lie for social security.

Such unblushing impunity would be difficult to find in the annals of any other Government in the world. It goes to prove that Mr Nash’s statements cannot l>e relied was stated over and over again that 2s to 2s 6d in the £1 would have to lx> levied for social security, and which the Government denied. If the workers have any idea that the extra shilling in the pound was for the duration of the war only, then it is obvious it is on for good, or at any rate, during the _ Labour Party’s tenure of office. ■ Trusting this will open the workers’ eyes. —Yours, etc., WATCHFUL.
