PUNISHMENT FOR HOAX.

(Press Assn.) AUCKLAND, July IS. The man who perpetrated the hoaxes on the Auckland Hospital, the St. John Ambulance, and the p'ire Hrip; adc early on Sunday morning, July 6, by telephoning that a serious railway smash had occurred in the railway yards, Edward Albert McGuire, aged 40, was sentenced in the Police Court to 18 months' imprisonment. The police said McGuire was a cook and a porter. He was deported from Australia and returned to New Zealand in May last after an absence of some years. He had a lengthy list of previous convictions.
